Community Schools and Recreation works cooperatively with all Pitt County Schools to promote volunteerism countywide. The CSR Staff assists with training, maintains records of volunteer involvement, provides recognition items and plans the annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. The staff is currently working with the Chamber of Commerce and the Education Cabinet on a partnership called OASIS, “Organizations/Businesses Assisting Schools in Success.” This program is having a positive impact on the school volunteer program as well as providing new resources to support the schools. The Community Schools and Recreation Department also utilizes volunteers in the major youth sports programs and Senior Games.
