Environmental Health is a division of the Pitt County Health Department. The division’s major responsibility is to protect the health of Pitt County citizens by applying sound environmental health principles through enforcement and education.
The environmental health specialists act as agents of the State in carrying out mandated environmental health programs for Pitt County. The regulatory functions of the division include inspections of: (a) restaurants, (b) food stands, (c) drink stands, (d) temporary restaurants and food stands, (e) mobile food units, (f) school lunchrooms, (g) meat markets, (h) hospitals, (I) rest/nursing homes, (j) school buildings, (k) jails, (l) residential care facilities, (m) child day cares, (n) migrant housing, (o) motels, (p) bed and breakfast homes, (q) summer camps, (r) swimming pools, (s) mobile home parks, (t) land for on-site wastewater systems, (u) on-site wastewater systems, (v) private water supplies, (w) lead hazards, and (x) tattoo parlors.
The division also provides mosquito control activities through surveillance, identification, and pesticide application.
