1) What is the Pitt County ALERT system?

If an emergency message needs to be communicated to the citizens, Pitt County Government can record the message and, by selecting an area of computerized county map, the system will call every phone number in the affected area and play the message.

2) When (and how often) will Pitt County contact me?

There is really no way to determine how many times you will be contacted. This is dependent on disasters beyond the control of the county and there is no way to predict what will happen in the future. Here is a list of some common scenarios:
Weather Bulletins/Alerts
Terror Alerts
Hazardous Materials Incident
Area Crime Notifications

3) Will my information be used to contact me for other reasons?

Absolutely not. Most of this information is public knowledge and can be gathered by looking in a local phone book. If you choose to enter a cell phone number via the web site you can rest assured that the information will be kept confidential.

4) How do I know if my phone number is already in the system?

If you have a "land-line" phone number then you are more than likely in the system (even if you are unlisted in the phone book). If have a cellular phone or an IP Phone then you are not in the system (unless you signed up via the web site).

5) What is my phone number changes?

If you have a "land-line" phone number then you do not need to do anything as these changes will be reflected in the system automatically.
If you have a cellular phone or IP phone then please contact MIS at 252.902.3800.

6) Where can I find more information about the ALERT system?
