Restaurant Sanitation Ratings
|
The Pitt County Environmental Health Division, a division of the Pitt County Health Department, is responsible for inspecting food and lodging establishments within the County as required by North Carolina law. The inspections are performed by Environmental Health Specialists who are Registered Sanitarians. The Environmental Health Specialists inspect the establishments for cleanliness, appropriate storage of food and supplies, and food handling practices for the purpose of protecting the health and well-being of the patrons and employees. Upon each inspection, the establishment is provided a grade and score. The establishment is required to post this grade in a location that is visible to the public. The inspections are performed without advanced notice to the establishment. The sanitation grade and score of an establishment is determined according to the rules and regulations set forth by the State. The Environmental Health Specialist explains his or her findings to the manager on duty at the conclusion of each inspection. Letter grades, "A","B", or "C", are calculated on a ten point scale. An inspection resulting in a score below 70% results in an automatic revocation of the establishment's permit. To view the grade and findings of the Environmental Health Specialist for a particular establishment, either type in the name of the establishment or use the alphabet listing to locate the establishment. Once you have identified the establishment, click on the establishment name. You will move to another page that will allow you to see how the Environmental Health Specialist calculated the score for that particular inspection. The column entitled "Item Points" indicates the number of points that were deducted during the inspection for a particular area of the inspection. The column entitled "Comments" is the inspector's explanation for the deduction. In some instances, the amount of the deduction does not equal the score given to an establishment. A food service establishment can earn an additional two points that is added to their final score when the establishment's management successfully completes an approved Food Protection Managers course. An asterisk next to the grade indicates the establishment has received a two point credit for completing the course.
