Floodplain Updates

FEMA is currently in the process of updating Flood Insurance Study (FIS) reports and Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMS) for Pitt County. At this time, FEMA is releasing preliminary map maintenance FIS reports and DFIRM panels for Edgecombe and Wilson Counties that reflect updated flood hazard information that crosses over into Pitt County. It is anticipated that the additional map maintenance restudies affecting all of Pitt County will be ready for release within six (6) months. At that time, FEMA will formally release the Pitt County FIS report and full set of revised DFIRM panels and follow the release with a coordination meeting and statutory 90-day appeal period. Copies of the preliminary FIS report and DFIRM panels are available for review on the ncfloodmaps.com website. We encourage the residents of Pitt County to visit the website at www.ncfloodmaps.com to review and submit any comments regarding the updated information. If you have any questions, you can contact the Pitt County Planning Department or Mr. Kenneth Ashe, P.E., CFM, NCFMP Assistant Director, at (919) 715-5711 ext. 105, or via e-mail at kashe@ncem.org. Questions or concerns may also be directed to the FEMA Map Information eXchange (FMIX) toll-free at (877) 336-2627 (877- FEMA MAP).
