2007 Environmental Excellence Award Winner

In February of 2004,  Pitt County implemented the Environmental Excellence Award Program to recognize developers who excel in the installation and maintenance of best management practices while conducting land disturbing activities under the County's Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Ordinance.  In determining the recipient of the award, points are assigned based on preserving the environmental features of the site during the project design, installation of Best Management Practices (BMP’s), and consistently maintaining the site for compliance with the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Ordinance.

The Pitt County Planning Department is proud to present the 2007 Environmental Excellence Award  to Sam’s Real Estate Business Trust, John S. Clark Company and Freeland & Kauffman for their exceptional effort in designing and constructing the Sam’s Club Expansion located on NC Hwy 11 S in Winterville.  Construction began on this site in May.  During the five months of construction, the site was inspected a total of ten times.  This site consistently received exceptional scores during all phases of construction. 

Representatives from Sam’s Real Estate Business Trust, John S. Clark Company and Freeland & Kauffman have accepted this award and received a certificate acknowledging their effort to protect the environmental resources of Pitt County.   In addition, a sign acknowledging the award has been placed on site. Congratulations to everyone involved in this project.
