Cholesterol, Diabetes, and Blood Pressure
Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in Pitt County. In order to address this issue, the Health Department offers screening and counseling services. If screening test results are elevated, referral is made to a physician of your choice.

Communicable Disease Control - Adults
Up until the early to mid-1900s, the leading causes of death were communicable diseases - diseases spread from person-to-person. Public Health had the major responsibility for controlling the spread of communicable diseases. This responsibility continues today. Services are provided to control the spread of communicable diseases such as hepatitis, whooping cough, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), and diseases caused by contaminated water or food such as salmonella or shigella.

HIV Testing and Counseling
Confidential testing and counseling are offered free of charge. Services are provided daily.

Immunizations - Adults
Immunizations available include:
- Flu
- Hepatitis A&B
- Meningococcal
- MMR
- Pneumonia
- Rabies pre-exposure
- Tetanus
- Varicella
Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD)
Services include free testing and treatment for report-able sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis. Services are provided daily.

Sickle Cell Testing and Counseling
Sickle cell testing is a free service and available to persons upon request and by appointment. A regional sickle cell counselor provides counseling to individuals and families with positive sickle cell screening.

Tuberculosis (TB)
Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up is available for anyone suspected to have or diagnosed with TB disease. We do not offer routine TB skin tests at this time.
