Severe Weather Preparedness Week occurs annually during the month of March, prior to when severe weather "season" typically begins in North Carolina.  It serves as an opportunity to increase awareness of and response to severe weather hazards. 

Pitt County Emergency Management (PCEM) recognizes this week through a full schedule of activties, often including: 

  • Tornado Drill in partnership with Pitt County Schools on March 8, 2023
  • A Proclamation from the Pitt County Board of Commissioners
  • Featured graphics on the Pitt County Website
  • Special posts on the Pitt County, PCEM, Public Health Department (PCHD) and Pitt County Schools (PCS) Social Media pages
  • Special programming on PittTV (Suddenlink Cable Channel 13)
  • Roadside banners and signage
