Hurricane Preparedness Week

Hurricane Preparedness Week May 7-13

Pitt County Recognizes 2017 Hurricane Preparedness Week • May 7-13, 2017.

This year’s Hurricane Preparedness Week is scheduled for May 7-13, 2017. In light of the recent affects our region has felt due to hurricanes and severe weather in general, Pitt County Emergency Management has teamed up with the Red Cross and the Pitt County Office of Public Information to commit to an increased awareness effort for this year’s Preparedness Week. Efforts throughout the week will include the following:

Banners: 6’ wide vinyl banners will be displayed throughout the week at the entrances to the County Offices at 1717 West 5th Street, and the County Office complex at Government Circle, both in Greenville.

Website: The home page of the Pitt County website will feature a special banner announcing Hurricane Preparedness Week, as well as featuring a page dedicated to the week’s recognitions. The public is encouraged to visit for updates on Pitt County efforts throughout the Week.

Social Media: The Pitt County Twitter page will feature tweets throughout the week, containing information regarding hurricane facts and preparedness. The Pitt County Twitter ID is @PittCountyNC. The Pitt County Flickr page will also feature updates throughout the week as well, and can be found at

Ready Kit Checklists: Small, double-sided “Ready Kit Checklist” cards will be distributed throughout the week and the entire 2017 hurricane season. These feature a checklist of items needed for every “ready kit,” along with basic information on hurricane classification and emergency contact information. These cards are printed in both English and Spanish.

Media Opportunities: Throughout the week, Pitt County Emergency Management and Red Cross officials will team up to offer demonstrations on planning and packing Ready Kits to any interested media outlets. They will also provide information on how individuals or groups can obtain Ready Kit Checklist cards from Pitt County Emergency Management.

Ready Kit Checklists can be obtained for individuals, groups, or civic organizations by contacting the Emergency Management Department at 252-902-3950. Both English and Spanish language Checklists can also be downloaded and printed by clicking the links below:
