Hurricane Preparedness Week
Pitt County Makes Plans for Hurricane Preparedness Week 2018
National Hurricane Preparedness Week is scheduled for May 13-19, 2018. As our community still feels the lingering financial and emotional effects of recent hurricane impacts, Pitt County Emergency Management (PCEM), along with the Pitt County Health Department (PCHD), is once again taking this opportunity to remind all residents of the importance of preparedness during Hurricane Season.
To start this year’s awareness efforts, PCEM, PCHD, the American Red Cross, and Greenville Fire/Rescue are partnering together to hold a Hurricane Preparedness Week Kickoff event. The event will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 9:00am – Noon at the East Greenville Lowe’s, located at 3840 East 10th Street in Greenville. The event is free to the public and will feature important information on storm preparedness, consultations with disaster management professionals, and helpful resources for assembling hurricane Ready Kits.
In addition to the kickoff event, efforts throughout the week will also include the following:
Banners: 6’ wide vinyl banners will be displayed throughout the week at the entrances to the County Administrative Offices at 1717 West 5th Street, and the County Office complex at Government Circle, both in Greenville.
Website / Social Media: The home page of the Pitt County website, along with the County Twitter feed, and the PCEM and PCHD Facebook pages, will display special banner graphics promoting hurricane preparedness, along with daily posts containing safety tips and resource information throughout the week.
Ready Kit Checklists: Small, double-sided “Ready Kit Checklist” cards will be distributed at the Kickoff Event and throughout the week. These feature a checklist of items needed for every “Ready Kit,” along with basic information on hurricane classification and emergency contact information. Ready Kit Checklists can also be obtained for individuals, groups, or civic organizations by contacting the Emergency Management Department at 252-902-3950. Both English and Spanish language Checklists can also be downloaded and printed by clicking the links below:
