Hurricane Preparedness Week occurs every year during the month of May, and is recognized by Pitt County Emergency Management (PCEM) through a full week of activities designed to educate the public on the subjects hurricane preparedness, safety and response.  These activities often include:

  • A Proclamation from the Pitt County Board of Commissioners
  • Roadside banners and signage
  • Featured graphics on the Pitt County Website
  • Special posts on the PCEM Social Media pages
  • Special programming on PittTv (Suddenlink Cable - channel 13)

Check back to this page often, as it will be updated with specific details as Hurricane Preparedness Week gets closer.

Ready Kit Checklists: To help make sure you are prepared for hurricanes or any other major weather event, PCEM has developed small, double-sided “Ready Kit Checklist” cards. These cards feature a checklist of items needed for every “Ready Kit,” along with basic information on hurricane classification and emergency contact information. Ready Kit Checklists can be obtained for individuals, groups, or civic organizations by contacting the Emergency Management Department at 252-902-3950. Both English and Spanish language Checklists can also be downloaded and printed by clicking the links below:
