National EMS Week
National EMS Week is May 20-26, 2018
This is a full week set aside to honor the dedicated individuals who serve our community by providing immediate care to residents during a health crisis. The theme for this year’s EMS Week is “Stronger together.” This theme aligns perfectly with the goal of the PulsePoint App, a free app that alerts users through their phones to nearby cardiac emergencies, allowing them to begin “Hands Only” CPR during the critical minutes between when a 911 call is made and EMS teams arrive on scene. To learn more about the PulsePoint App, visit their website at www.PulsePoint.org.
Pitt County Emergency Management (PCEM) has been working for the past 8 months to integrate PulsePoint within County 911 systems, and is the first local government in the state of North Carolina to launch the app publicly. A public launch event has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 10:00am in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located in the Pitt County Administrative Office Building at 1717 West 5th Street in Greenville. All media recipients of this release are invited to attend the launch event.
In addition to the launch of the PulsePoint app, Pitt County will also further recognize EMS Week with the following efforts:
Banners: 6’ wide vinyl banners promoting National EMS Week will be displayed at the entrances to the County Administrative Offices at 1717 West 5th Street, and the County Office Complex located at Government Circle, both in Greenville.
Website/Social Media: The home page of the Pitt County Website, along with the Pitt County Facebook page, and the PCEM Facebook page, will all feature special graphics honoring National EMS Week. Daily updates will also be posted on the PCEM Facebook page, featuring information regarding Emergency Medical Services.
“Hands Only” CPR PSA: The Pitt County Public Information Office has produced a 4 minute video PSA featuring instructions in “Hands Only” CPR technique, along with basic automated external defibrillator (AED) use and promotion of the PulsePoint app. This PSA will be run on PittTv (Suddenlink Cable Channel 13), and posted to the PittTV YouTube Page as well as County social media outlets.
