October 15, 2019 – Fostering Latino Census Engagement through Community Partnerships
On October 15, 2019, a meeting was held at the ECU Student Center focusing on Fostering Latino Census Engagement through Community Partnerships. A common question presented throughout the event was “How can we best partner and strategize to work together and encourage participation early on?” Members of the Latino community presented useful information in regard to creating trust between the people, making it easier to reach this hard to count population and encourage them to successfully fill-out the Census form. After presentations by Augustin Velasquez, Juliana Cabrales, James Rhodes, and Bob Coates, participants split into groups and came up with ways to market the message to the Latino community using jingles, story-telling, and skits. By the end of the meeting a new Complete Count Committee was created to ensure the Latino population throughout Pitt County is accounted for.
