2045 Comprehensive Transportation Plan Update

Planning staff, in cooperation with the Transportation Planning Division of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the Greenville Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the Mid-East Rural Planning Organization, are updating the Comprehensive Transportation Plan for the County.  A Comprehensive Transportation Plan is a long-range planning document that will assist in making transportation decisions for the next 25-30 years and is required by NC General Statute 136-66.2.

A Steering Committee was formed in September 2020 and monthly meetings are held to provide updates and input on the plan.  In the spring of 2021, a public input survey was conducted and had just under 1,800 participants.  Public workshops were held on November 14, 2022 at Pitt County Community Schools and Recreation (4561 County Home Road, Greenville) and November 17, 2022 at the North Pitt High School Cafeteria (5659 NC 11 North, Bethel) to give the public an opportunity to provide input and comments on the draft document.  Additionally, a virtual information session was recorded and comments could be submitted online for those unable to attend either session.  The virtual information session is still available to be viewed at the following link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u6eT9g0SP4.

NCDOT staff is currently incorporating the comments received during public outreach into the draft plan and the Steering Committee is currently scheduled to hold a meeting in August to review the draft.  Once the Steering Committee endorses the plan, Staff will begin the adoption process and hopes to have final adoptions completed by the end of 2023.
