National Opioid Settlement

North Carolina is part of a historic $26 billion agreement that will help bring desperately needed relief to communities impacted by opioids. These funds will be used to support treatment, recovery, harm reduction, and other life-saving programs and services in communities throughout the state. North Carolina’s Opioid and Substance Use Action Plan lays out concrete strategies to advance prevention, reduce harm, and connect people to the care that they need.

In July 2021, a bipartisan coalition of state attorneys general announced the National Opioid Settlement – a historic $26 billion agreement that will help bring desperately needed help to communities harmed by the opioid epidemic. The state of North Carolina and all 100 counties, including Pitt County, joined the agreement.

Pitt County approves Plan to Battle Opioid Epidemic

On November 21st, 2022, the Pitt County Board of Commissioners approved the Pitt County Opioid Settlement Fund, which will put $805,000 toward four key initiatives through June 2024. It’s the initial phase of a plan that will invest a total of $36.1 million into fighting the opioid epidemic over the next 18 years.
