NOTICE OF HEARINGS
Pitt County Addressing Ordinance Road Name Changes
The Pitt County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Monday, August 8, 2022, at or after 6:00 p.m. in the Eugene James Auditorium in the County Administration Building located at 1717 W. 5th Street, Greenville, N.C. regarding proposed road name changes.
With the official designation of the future Interstate 587 along the existing US 264 segment between I-95 and the NC 11 Bypass in Pitt County, the US 264 Alternate segment between the county boundary and its intersection with US 13 has been eliminated and re-designated US 264 by North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
This renaming process will impact Pitt County's E-911 Addressing and the affected roads must be renamed during a Public Hearing as stipulated in Section 7 of the County's Addressing Ordinance.
After review, Planning Staff is recommending the following road name changes:
1) Rename US 264 West as I-587 from the Pitt County Line to US 264/NC 11Southwest Bypass; and
2) Continue the names of East Marlboro Road and West Marlboro Road from Farmville Town Limits to the affected portions:
- Section 1 - US 264 Alternate at US 13 to Farmville Town Limits - rename to East Marlboro Road; and
- Section 2 - US 264 Alternate at western portion of Farmville Town Limits to the Pitt County Boundary - rename to West Marlboro Road.
The purpose of the public hearing is to gather public comment and input on the proposed road name change prior to consideration by the Board of County Commissioners. All meetings can be viewed by the public on PittTV (Suddenlink Cable Channel 13) or the Pitt County YouTube channel (www.YouTube.com/PittCountyNC). Those persons unable to attend the hearing may submit written questions or comments to the Clerk to the Board before the meeting. The mailing address is:
