World Breastfeeding Celebration Event
Pitt County Health Department to Host Free Event on August 18
PITT COUNTY, N.C. – On Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., stand and be counted to Step Up for Breastfeeding by attending this local celebration at the Pitt County Health Department located at 201 Government Circle, Greenville, NC.
August 1 marked the beginning of World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7) AND National Breastfeeding Month. All month, people around the world are taking part in celebrations and actions that inform, engage, and strengthen the networks that are essential to ensure women have support for breastfeeding. This year’s theme urges the community to “Step Up for Breastfeeding” with the focus on education and support.
Anyone in support of breastfeeding, which may include parents, nurses, family members, physicians, and those involved in baby’s care, are encouraged to attend. Attendees will gain breastfeeding knowledge by interacting with local WIC Nutritionists and Pitt County Health Department Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, IBCLCs (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants), Nurse Family Partnership Program staff, and volunteers from The Lifetime of Joy Baby Pantry, and breastfeeding staff from ECU Health.
Participants will be entered to win a breastfeeding-related prize from raffle drawings. Other fun highlights include recipe tasting of a cool, summer yogurt parfait, selfie station photo opportunity and a kiddie station where young ones can learn about foods that will help them grow healthy and strong. Additionally, cooking kits will be distributed to participants to encourage making healthy meals from home! The kits include a reusable shopping bag, measuring cups and spoons, small cutting board, potholder, bag clip, and a sandwich spreader.
The event is free and open to the public. Do not miss this opportunity to connect with and learn about your local breastfeeding support network.
