[ARCHIVED] Pitt County Waterway Debris Removal Update

PITT COUNTY, N.C. – Pitt County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWD) partnered with the Town of Winterville to address storm debris removal related to Long Branch Canal.

Concerns related to this Winterville, NC waterway have been ongoing since 2018, following Hurricane Florence.

On Monday, September 12, 2022, Soil and Water Director, PJ Andrews, and Town of Winterville Mayor Ricky Hines, announced field work for the Long Branch Canal is complete.  Snagging work included debris removal of fallen trees and blockages that restricted the flow of water in the drainage way.

“The County looks forward to continued partnerships with the Town of Winterville,” says PJ Andrews, Director, Pitt County Soil and Water Conservation District.

“The Town of Winterville appreciates County assistance with cleaning up the canal.  The cleanup helps alleviate some of the flooding concerns,” says Mayor Hines.

A Town of Winterville map and before and after photos of the cleanup are included for reference.  For more information, contact Pitt Soil and Water at 252-902-1746.
