PITT COUNTY, N.C. – On Friday, October 14, 2022, the Pitt County Department of Social Services (DSS) will participate in the annual “Bready Bear” fundraiser kickoff event from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. at the Great Harvest Bread Company, located at 2803 Evans Street in Greenville, N.C.
The event kicks off a week of fundraising efforts by the Great Harvest Bread Company, where $4.00 from every sale of their signature honey whole wheat teddy bear shaped baked goods will be donated to Pitt County DSS and Foster Care efforts.
“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much to impact the lives of children in the foster care system,” says Chandra Mewborn, DSS Permanency Planning Unit Supervisor.
Preorders will be available for pickup daily at Great Harvest Bread Company from October 17-21, 2022 after 11:00 a.m. The public may also place orders this week by calling the bakery at 252-689-6012, online, or in person.
“The Bready Bear initiative is a wonderful collaborative effort between Pitt County DSS, the Bridge Foster Ministry and the Great Harvest Bread Company. This fundraiser will be so important to enhance the well being of the Pitt County foster children,” says Sharon Rochelle, DSS Director.
“Bridge Foster Ministry is honored to partner with Great Harvest Bread and Pitt County DSS to help raise awareness and support for foster families in Pitt County,” says Jennifer Teague and Board Members of the Bridge foster Ministry.
On average, Pitt County DSS maintains custody of approximately 200 children at any given time. For those children, foster care is a major component in their transition to a permanent home. The support of foster families and the vital infrastructure they provide to the efforts of Social Services are critical to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the children within DSS custody.
