Diabetes Coordinator Awarded Statewide Health Care Provider Award
Diabetes Advisory Council (DAC) of N.C. has recognized Pitt County’s Angie Watson

PITT COUNTY, N.C. – Angie Watson, Pitt County Health Department Diabetes Coordinator, was awarded the 2022 Health Care Provider Award at the Diabetes Advisory Council of N.C. (DAC) Awards Ceremony on October 28, 2022 in Raleigh, N.C. The statewide award recognizes a person or organization that has provided exemplary community support in one or more or the strategies outlined in North Carolina’s Guide to Diabetes Prevention and Management.
Angie Watson has been employed by Pitt County Health Department as a Diabetes Educator since October of 2018. She is a Registered Dietitian with over 20 years of experience, and 11 years of experience working solely with clients with diabetes, 9 of which are as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Her previous roles include diabetes education at ECU Endocrinology in Greenville and a dietitian/diabetes educator at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston. She also has management experience in healthcare foodservice and clinical dietetics.
Angie earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Human Nutrition from Mount Saint Vincent University in Canada and a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Brunswick, with a double major in Biology and Psychology. She is also a co-contributor for “Trends and Rural-Urban Differences in Participation in Diabetes Self-Management Education Among Adults in North Carolina: 2012-2017” published in the Journal of Public Health Management & Practice in January 2022.

All of us at PCHD are pleased that Angie has been selected as the Diabetes Provider of the Year by the NC Diabetes Advisory Council. She is truly deserving of this honor,” says Dr. John Silvernail, Pitt County Health Director.
“I am honored and blessed to be presented with this award. I love working with clients with diabetes, and have learned so much from them as well as other healthcare professionals over the years. Diabetes is tough. Anything we can do to make it easier for someone to manage is a win in my book,” says Angie Watson, Pitt County Health Department Diabetes Coordinator.
The 2022 Health Care Provider Award presented by the North Carolina Diabetes Advisory Council is an annual statewide award. 15 awards have been given since 2019.
