[ARCHIVED] Pitt County, Trillium Health Resources Ink Land Deal

Memorial Sign

Trillium Health Resources (Trillium) has signed a lease deal with Pitt County for land that will be home to a new residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program for eastern North Carolina.

According to the agreement, Trillium will lease approximately six acres of land from Pitt County where they will construct a facility to house a shelter and recovery program for uninsured and underinsured residents of eastern North Carolina with alcohol and other drug addictions.

"As a member of the Trillium Health Resources LME, Pitt County is pleased to partner with Trillium on this project. The short and long term success of this project is valuable for the people who will use its services as well as indirectly reducing the demand on resources at the Pitt County Detention Center and Vidant Medical Center," said Pitt County Manager Scott Elliott.

Currently in eastern North Carolina, there are approximately 33,900 individuals with a drug and alcohol problem and nearly 3,900 uninsured, untreated adults in need of treatment. There are no existing long-term residential facilities for substance use disorders in the region. This program, modeled after the Healing Place of Wake County, will meet a tremendous need in eastern North Carolina.

"By managing Medicaid funding and services locally, Trillium has been able to achieve cost efficiencies that allow us to reinvest savings into communities we serve," said Leza Wainwright, CEO, Trillium. "It's our responsibility to connect individuals and families to the help they need when they need it. And we are thrilled to work with Pitt County to bring a proven program to our region where the need is so great."

Trillium will invest an estimated $12 million, which will go toward building the facility and operating costs for the first two years of the program. The agreed upon lease will run for a period of 50 years with the opportunity to extend an additional 49 years, giving the program the opportunity to grow, thrive and become an integral part of the region.
