PITT COUNTY, N.C. – Severe Weather Preparedness Week runs Sunday, March 5 through Saturday, March 11, 2023. To bring awareness, Pitt County Emergency Management (PCEM) and Pitt County Schools (PCS) have scheduled various activities throughout the week.
Tornado Drill: On Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 9:30 a.m., the National Weather Service in cooperation with local broadcasters will conduct a statewide tornado drill. Emergency Management Director Randy Gentry will join Pitt County Schools officials at Creekside Elementary School for this drill. Creekside Elementary is located at 431 Forlines Road, Winterville, N.C. Media Advisory: Officials will be available to the media from 9:00 a.m. to 9:20 a.m.
Website and Social Media: Pitt County Government website www.PittCountyNC.gov will display safety information on the homepage and Emergency Management pages. Pitt County will feature important safety related posts, related to the daily theme, on its Facebook pages @PittCountyNC, @PittCountyEM, @PublicHealth.
“Topics for this year include safety information related to severe thunderstorms and tornados, how to receive severe weather alerts, high wind and hail events, lightening safety and flash flood safety,” says Randy Gentry, PCEM Director.
Banners: A roadside banner announcing the week will be on display at the Pitt County Office Complex with other signs at various County facilities.
