Pitt County “Hoops 4 Health” 3 On 3 Basketball Tournament
April 15 event to be held for middle school students
PITT COUNTY, N.C. – Pitt County Health Department and organizations including East Carolina University’s (ECU) Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams joined together to plan a community event to focus on the importance of adolescent health and wellness.
“Hoops 4 Health” 3 On 3 Basketball Tournament will be held for Pitt County middle school students on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the South Greenville Recreation Center located at 851 Howell St, Greenville, N.C. 27834.
This is the second time the event has taken place. The original event, held in 2014 to promote continuous physical activity among youth, was also in line with the “Let’s Move Initiative” to decrease childhood obesity. The initiative encourages communities to provide fun and affordable sports and fitness programs, which is also the goal of “Hoops 4 Health”. In addition to the 3 On 3 basketball tournament, there will be vendors with health-related information.
The highlight of the 2023 ”Hoops 4 Health” is participation by ECU’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams. Students will have the opportunity to interact with players who will serve in various roles throughout the event.
The tournament is free and open to any Pitt County middle school student. Coed teams are included.
The event will close with a 3-Point Contest and trophies and ribbons presentation. This event will be entertaining for both participants and spectators.
