PITT COUNTY, N.C. – The annual “Bready Bear” fundraiser for the Pitt County Department of Social Services (DSS) and Bridge Foster Ministry is happening! Sponsored by Great Harvest Bread Company, special purchases of the signature teddy bear shaped baked goods are available to the public, from which a $4 portion of each sale will be donated to Pitt County Foster Care efforts and the Bridge Foster Ministry.
“Pitt County Department of Social Services welcomes the ongoing support we receive from our community partners such as the Great Harvest Bread Company. Every child deserves an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of this connection and believes that the child will become the best person that they can be,” says Sharon Rochelle, Social Services Director.
Orders may be placed in person at Great Harvest located at 2803 Evans Street, Greenville, by phone at 252-689-6012 or online at Bready Bear | Great Harvest Bread Co (square.site).
“Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much to impact the lives of children in the foster care system,” says Chandra Mewborn, DSS Permanency Planning Unit Supervisor.
Preorders began August 1 and may be placed through August 18, 2023. Bready Bears will be available for pickup from August 21-25, 2023 after 11:00 a.m. at Great Harvest Bread.

“Bridge Foster Ministry is honored to partner with Great Harvest Bread and Pitt County DSS to help raise awareness and support for Foster families in Pitt County,” says Jennifer Teague and Board Members of the Bridge Foster Ministry.
Pitt County DSS maintains approximately 200 children within their custody at any given time and foster care is a major component in their transition to a permanent home. The support of foster families and the vital infrastructure they provide are critical to ensuring positive outcomes for these children.
