2023-24 “I Love My County Because” Call for Art Contest Entries
Pitt County encourages entries from students 18 and under
PITT COUNTY, N.C. – Pitt County Board of Commissioners and County leaders, on behalf of the National Association of Counties (NACo), are calling for art contest entries from Pitt County homeschool, public and private school students 18 years of age and younger, in grades 1 through 12.
The contest, launched in April, is conjunction with National County Government month and invites children and young adults to create artwork for the 2024 “Counties Matter” calendar.
“I enjoy seeing students engage with local government through contests like the ‘I Voted’ sticker competition and ‘I Love My County Because’ art program,” says Chairwoman Mary Perkins-Williams. “I encourage our homeschool students to participate in the ‘I Love My County Because’ contest this year and look forward to viewing all entries.”
The program, sponsored by Americans for the Arts, is an effort by NACo and Pitt County leaders to bolster civic education on the roles and responsibilities of local county government and to raise awareness about programs and services that may be overlooked.
“Over the last two years, Pitt County has had 8 winners and 5 honorable mentions in this national art contest. It has been great to see students in our community showcase their talent and civic awareness through art,” says Janis Gallagher, County Manager.
Winning art for 2023 can be viewed at www.PittCountyNC.gov/ArtContest.
Artwork must include:
- a county activity that shows how “Counties Matter” and inspired by the sentence “I love my county because…”
- reflect a county government function, service or program
The deadline for competition submission is September 29, 2023. For a full list of eligibility criteria, rules and submission guidelines, visit https://www.naco.org/resources/i-love-my-county-because-art-contest.
