REGISTER OF DEEDS TO HOST SPECIAL PASSPORT FAIR
Passport information and application assistance available November 9
PITT COUNTY, N.C. – The Pitt County Register of Deeds will host a special passport acceptance fair in partnership with the Department of State on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 100 East 1st Street, Greenville, N.C.
The purpose of the event is to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications.
“U.S. citizens must present a valid passport book when entering or re-entering the United States by air,” says Janis Gallagher, Pitt County Manager. “Passport acceptance facilities, such as our Register of Deeds, are hosting passport fairs across the U.S. to help families navigate the application process. The knowledgeable staff and resources of the Pitt County Register of Deeds office are helpful to our citizens.”
U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry must present a passport book, passport card or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government.
“Most events are for first-time customers and families with children,” says Pamela Johnson, Deputy Register of Deeds. “The event is free and open to U.S. citizens. Appointments are not required, but encouraged to ensure an applicant brings documentation needed during the application process.”
“If a current passport owner is eligible to renew their passport, they should renew by mail,” says Lisa Nichols, Pitt County Register of Deeds. “Our staff will be available to answer passport questions on November 9 and during operating hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).”
Information on the cost and how to apply for a U.S. passport is available at www.travel.state.gov. U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1-877-487-2278.
