On Wednesday, March 15, 2017, the Pitt County Manager’s Office received a letter from Commissioner David Hammond, informing the Clerk to the Board of his decision to step down from the Board of Commissioners, effective immediately. Mr. Hammond stated the need to focus on his health as the reason for his decision.
Following the step down, the Board of Commissioners will appoint a replacement to fill the unexpired term. Recommendations from the Executive Committee of the Pitt County Democratic party, Commissioners Hammond’s affiliated party, will be taken into consideration by the Board for their decision, though they are not bound to that recommendation.
The County Manager joins the Board of Commissioners in thanking Commissioner Hammond for over 19 years of dedicated service to the residents of Pitt County. A special recognition honoring Mr. Hammond is planned for the April 3, 2017 meeting of the Board of Commissioners, at which he is expected to be present. The meeting is scheduled for 9:00am in the Eugene James Commissioners Auditorium, located on the second floor of the County Administrative Offices, at 1717 West 5th Street in Greenville.
