The Pitt County Planning Board will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at or after 5:30pm regarding a request for a Conditional Use Permit. This hearing will be held in the Eugene James Auditorium on the second floor of the County Administration Building located at 1717 W. 5th Street, Greenville, N.C.
The Pitt County Planning Department is in receipt of a petition from Southern Land & Timber requesting a Conditional Use Permit, as required within the Rural Agricultural district, for the operation of a “sand mine” on property owned by James and Jerry Emmert. The subject property is identified by the Tax Assessor’s Office as Parcel Number 33464 and is located on SR 1607 (Sheppard Mill Road) south of its intersection with SR 1550 (Satterthwaite Road). The subject property is 276.38 acres, of which 138.54 acres are proposed to be used for the “sand mine”. The Pitt County Board of Commissioners previously held a public hearing on this request on April 17, 2017, and referred the request to the Planning Board for its recommendation. The purpose of the public hearing is to gather facts and evidence about the request which will allow the Planning Board to make a well informed and educated recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners. Those persons unable to attend the hearing may submit written questions or comments to the Planning Department before the meeting.
