[ARCHIVED] PUBLIC NOTICE: Pitt County Zoning Ordinance Conditional Use Permit Request

The Pitt County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Monday, May 22, 2017 at or after 6:00pm regarding a request for a Conditional Use Permit. This hearing will be held in the Eugene James Auditorium on the second floor of the County Administration Building located at 1717 W. 5th Street, Greenville, N.C.

The Pitt County Planning Department is in receipt of a petition from Southern Land & Timber requesting a Conditional Use Permit as required in the Rural Agricultural district for the expansion of an existing sand mine on property owned by James and Jerry Emmert. The subject property is identified by the Tax Assessor’s Office as Parcel Number 22853 and is located on SR 1607 (Sheppard Mill Road) north of its intersection with SR 1550 (Satterthwaite Road). The subject property is 121.90 acres, of which 41.29 acres was previously approved for a sand mine on March 11, 2008. The current request is to include an additional 28.71 acres of mining area to the existing mine. The purpose of the public hearing is to gather public comment and input on the Conditional Use Permit Request prior to consideration by the Board of County Commissioners. Those persons unable to attend the hearing may submit written questions or comments to the Clerk to the Board before the meeting.
