The Pitt County Planning Department, along with the City of Greenville, East Carolina University and the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association hosted the 2017 Annual Conference at the Greenville Convention Center on September 29th.  The theme for this conference was: Rural, Urban, Points in Between.  This was the first time the conference was hosted in Greenville and was considered a success with over 400 attendees from across the state.  The program included 42 concurrent sessions, 7 mobile workshops and 2 deep dive sessions.  The conference kicked off with an Exhibitor & Sponsor Meet and Greet reception at the historic Martinsborough Building in Uptown Greenville.  On Thursday night, ECU hosted an Alumni reception at the Croatan Building on ECU Campus for past planning program alums. The Planning Department and Pitt County hosted several of the mobile workshops: Exploring the County Home Complex, Creating Educational Opportunities with Environmentally Sensitive Areas (at A Time For Science in Grifton), and Agritourism with a True Farm to Table Experience (Simply Natural Creamery in Greene County).  The following Pitt County staff served on the Planning Conference Committee: Tabitha Auten, Tracy Cash, Mike Emory, Eric Gooby, Carla Hanson, Jonas Hill, Eli Johnson, Bryan Jones, Alice Keene, Chris Lawson, Mark Nottingham and James Rhodes.  The conference was a huge success and a pleasure to host.
