Awareness activities planned throughout entire week of October 8-14, 2017
National Fire Prevention Week runs from Sunday, October 8 through Saturday, October 14, 2017. In recognition of this week, Pitt County Emergency Management (PCEM) is launching a full week of activities designed to educate the public on subjects of fire safety and prevention. These efforts include:
Proclamation: At their September 11, 2017 meeting, the Pitt County Board of Commissioners issued a proclamation recognizing National Fire Prevention Week, in which they reaffirmed Pitt County’s commitment “to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting our County.”
Website: The home page of the Pitt County website will feature a special banner announcing National Fire Prevention Week, as well as featuring a page dedicated to County efforts. The public is encouraged to visit www.pittcountync.gov/FirePrevention for updates on planned activities throughout the week.
Social Media: The recently launched Pitt County Emergency Management Facebook page (@PittCountyEM) will feature posts and video updates throughout the week from Emergency Management staff, including Deputy Fire Marshal Jay Morris. Most notably, these updates will feature vital, life-saving information on topics including smoke detector placement and maintenance, fire prevention techniques, and fire extinguisher use, among others. The Pitt County Twitter feed (@PittCountyNC) as well as the main County Facebook page (@PittCountyNC) will also share information posted to the @PittCountyEM page..
PittTv: Several public service announcement (psa) videos have been created by the Public Information Office, to be launched during National Fire Prevention week. These psa’s address the subjects of volunteer firefighter recruitment and smoke alarm safety. The videos will begin airing on PittTv and the Pitt County YouTube channel during the week, and will also be shared on the County’s social media accounts as well.
