Pitt County Hires New Deputy Manager / Chief Financial Officer


After completing a thorough process to recruit a new Deputy County Manager / Chief Financial Officer, Pitt County Government is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Brian Barnett of Statesville, NC, who will begin his duties in the new role effective March 5, 2018.  

Mr. Barnett has most recently served as the Budget and Performance Manager for the Town of Mooresville, NC, where he also previously served as Deputy Finance Director. In his capacity throughout both of these roles, Barnett worked to lead departments and staff through the creation, implementation, and management of the operating budget, capital improvement plan, and five-year plans. Barnett has also held positions of Budget and Benchmark analyst and served for over 2 years as the Town Manager for the Town of Catawba, NC.

With over 8 years of work in the fields of City/County management, government finance, and budget analytics, Mr. Barnett will make a valuable addition to the Pitt County management team; as well as a strong leader for the Pitt County Financial Services department, as he takes on the role vacated by the departure of former Deputy Manager/CFO Duane Holder in the fall of 2017.   

Brian is a graduate of UNC Greensboro, with a masters degree in Public Administration from Appalachian State University. With a main concentration on City/County Management, he has also completed coursework from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Government, and is a certified Local Government Budget Officer through the North Carolina Local Government Budget Association.
