News_DSS

March is National Professional Social Work Month, an opportunity for social workers and their allies across the nation to spotlight the profession and highlight the important contributions they make to society. Currently, the Pitt County Department of Social Services (DSS) employs 70 social workers and 14 Social Work Supervisors, a significant percentage of the social workers employed in all organizations throughout the County; including Pitt County Public Health, Pitt County Schools, Veterans Administration, Vidant Health, and several private agencies, just to name a few.

Within the last 12 months, social workers with Pitt County DSS alone oversaw the following:

• Adoption of 14 children

• Transition of 291 individuals towards self-sufficiency

• Child protection interventions involving 1,104 families with nearly 2,000 children

• Guardianship service for 125 adults

• Protection intervention to over 350 vulnerable disabled adults

• Over 1300 child care subsidy cases

• Utility assistance to over 2700 households

To help honor the hard work of social workers from all organizations within Pitt County, social work staff from DSS will be present at the DSS Board meeting on March 13, 2018 at 4:00pm in the Eugene James Auditorium, located on the second floor of the County Office Building at 1717 West 5th Street in Greenville. In addition, special artwork will be posted on the Pitt County website and social media pages, along with special video productions airing on PittTv (Suddenlink Cable channel 13) and online at www.PittCountyNC.gov/PittTv.

These efforts serve to recognize the ongoing work and dedication Pitt County DSS staff have to serving the residents of our community,
