August is Child Support Awareness Month. Every day, the staff of the Pitt County Department of Social Services (DSS) and their partnering agencies, work together to ensure all children within our community receive the financial and parental support they are entitled to. To help bring recognition to the efforts of Child Support Services personnel, and the children they serve, Pitt County DSS will be engaging in several awareness efforts throughout the entire month of August.
On Tuesday, August 7, at 9:00am DSS will hold a Child Support Awareness Walk at the Pitt County Human Services Center, located at 203 Government Circle in Greenville. This event will feature DSS staff and community advocates, coming together for a one-mile walk around the Government Circle campus, while holding signs and banners promoting support awareness.
Additionally, PittTv (Suddenlink Cable channel 13), along with the Pitt County website and social media accounts, will feature special Child Support Awareness months graphics and information materials.
From July 2017-June 2018, the Pitt County Department of Social Services (DSS) handled over 8,355 court ordered child support cases, securing and processing approximately $15,438,315 in child support funds. This exceeded their assigned collections goal by 1.5%. Family Support Services Program Administrator, Michele McCorkle attributed this success rate as “A direct result of the combined efforts of Child Support staff, DSS Attorney’s and paralegals, Clerk of Court, and Sheriff’s deputies who work diligently on behalf of the children of Pitt County.”
