Pitt County is pleased to announce that Jonas N. Hill, IV has been promoted to the role of Assistant Planning & Development Director, effective August 27, 2018.

Jonas Hill is a planner who has over 18 years of planning experience. Currently he works for Pitt County where he is blessed to be able to contribute to the community he has called home for over four decades.

Hill earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Geography at East Carolina University in 1999, and began his career with the City of New Bern, where he served as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Technician in the Engineering Department. During his tenure with New Bern, he was instrumental in making the transition from AutoCAD to ESRI based software for the City’s infrastructure (electric, water & sewer). Jonas joined the Pitt County Planning Department in February, 2002 to assist with the continuing recovery efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Floyd in 1999.

His planning experience involves the development and implementation of the County’s first ever countywide Land Use Plan and Zoning Ordinance and Stormwater Ordinance. His focus includes administration of Community Development programs, providing oversight of land development projects including flood damage prevention and review of development plans. He also administers State and Federal mandated environmental regulations.

Pitt County Planning & Development Director James Rhodes encouraged all County staff and residents to welcome a familiar face to a new and exciting role within the department.
