Tropical Storm Florence is currently positioned midway in the North-Atlantic Ocean. At the time of this release, it is expected to increase in intensity to hurricane strength, with the possibility of making landfall somewhere in the middle of the east coast of the United States, sometime late next week.
In response to this potential threat, Pitt County has activated the Emergency Information Page of the Pitt County website at www.PittCountyNC.gov/FLORENCE. Pitt County Emergency Management (PCEM) is continuing to monitor the track of this storm, and its potential impacts to our area. Please feel free to share the “FLORENCE” URL for the Emergency Information Page on all personal and organizational social media and internet outlets, as it will be the most authoritative voice of information regarding Pitt County observation and response during this event.
As always, PCEM strongly encourages everyone to take this time to assemble your emergency preparedness kits (Ready Kits), if not done already.
Hurricanes can be some of the most damaging forces of nature, but thankfully they give us an ample amount of time to prepare. Please take some time over the weekend to prepare your Ready Kits, review emergency plans within your family; and most importantly, check on your neighbors to see if you can assist them in getting prepared as well!
REMINDER: You can download your own Ready Kits checklist at www.PittCountyNC.gov/HurricaneChecklist. Spanish language versions are also available at www.PittCountyNC.gov/HurricaneChecklistESP.
