The Community Partnership for Pets, Inc. (CPPI) is an organization based in Henderson County, NC with a commitment to reducing the suffering and euthanasia of animals in shelters. In an email statement released on Saturday, September 29, 2018, CPPI announced they are working with Pitt County Animal Shelter to help fund their new feral cat program. In addition, CPPI is also working with the Eastern Pet Food Pantry to help fund spay/neuter surgeries for pets belonging to low income families.
Changing the Odds...
Community Partnership for Pets' focus since 2005 has been to:
- Reduce the number of dogs and cats entering county-run animal shelters and
- Work to get dogs and cats already at the shelter out of there as soon as possible
Many people do not understand NC county-run animal shelters are required by law to accept all animals surrendered to them. This means when space is needed, animals already at the shelter will be euthanized. Time is of the essence since the shelter is only required to hold them for 72 hours.
CPPI is working with counties across NC to set up and fund the following programs to reduce the number of animals coming into these shelters and increase the number leaving alive. These programs include:
- Spay/Neuter
- Pet Retention Programs (i.e. pet food assistance)
- Lost Pet Recovery
- Advertising, Marketing & Networking of Shelter Animals
