PUBLIC NOTICE: Pitt County Zoning Ordinance Conditional Use Permit Request

The Pitt County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Monday, March 25, 2019 at or after 6:00pm regarding a request for a Conditional Use Permit.  This hearing will be held in the Eugene James Auditorium on the second floor of the County Administration Building located at 1717 W. 5th Street, Greenville, N.C.

The Pitt County Planning Department is in receipt of a petition from Southern Land & Timber, LLC requesting a Conditional Use Permit for the operation of a “sand mine” on property owned by Pitt & Beaufort County Farms, LLC as required in the Rural Agricultural district.  The subject property is identified by the Tax Assessor’s Office as Parcel Number 33464 and is located on SR 1607 (Sheppard Mill Road) south of its intersection with SR 1550 (Satterthwaite Road).  The subject property is 276.38 acres, of which 161.18 acres are proposed to be used for the sand mine.  A similar request for a Conditional Use Permit to operate a sand mine on the subject property was previously approved on June 17, 2017 and the issued permit subsequently expired.  Citizens interested in obtaining additional information on the proposed Conditional Use Permit should contact the Pitt County Planning Department (252-902-3250).

The purpose of the public hearing is to gather public comment and input on the Conditional Use Permit Request prior to consideration by the Board of County Commissioners. Those persons unable to attend the hearing may submit written questions or comments to the Clerk to the Board before the meeting.  The mailing address is: Clerk to the Board, Pitt County, 1717 W. 5th Street, Greenville, NC 27834
