October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time set aside each year to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities; and to promote the value of a workforce inclusive of their skills and talents. On Monday, October 22, 2018, the Pitt County Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities (PCCEPD) presented WITN with the Committee’s annual Employer of the Year Award.
PCCEPD members Christina Bell, John Kramzar, Paula Stox, joined Committee Chair Pam Hollingsworth in presenting WITN General Manager, Mark Gentner with the 2018 Award, in recognition of their willingness to collaborate on employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Over the past year, WITN has hosted three internship opportunities for individuals with disabilities within their engineering and creative service departments. Working to provide these opportunities truly embodies the "America’s Workforce: Empowering All" theme for NDEAM this year.

The mission of the Pitt County Committee for Employment of People with Disabilities is to promote employment opportunities, provide training for employers within Pitt County on the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities, and promote networking among employers, service providers, and consumers. Board members are appointed by the Pitt County Board of Commissioners. Members include representatives from local agencies, organizations, and members of the community.
