[ARCHIVED] Pitt County to Close General Population Shelters and Extend Animal Shelter Hours

Effective at 3:00pm today (Friday) Pitt County, in cooperation with the Red Cross will cease operation of all five general population emergency shelters. The five shelters currently open in response to Hurricane Dorian are:

- Ayden Middle School, 192 W 3rd St, Ayden, NC 28513

- E.B. Aycock Middle School, 1325 Red Banks Rd, Greenville, NC 27858

- Farmville Middle School, 3914 Grimmersburg St, Farmville, NC 27828

- Hope Middle School, 2995 Mills Rd, Greenville, NC 27858

- Wellcome Middle School, 3101 N Memorial Dr, Greenville, NC 27834

Additionally, Pitt County Animal Services has established additional weekend hours of operation for the Animal Shelter, to allow for the reclamation of pets left for emergency sheltering, or the return of fostered pets. The Shelter will be open both Saturday and Sunday (9/7 & 9/8) from 7:00am - 4:00pm. Again, this will only be for pet reclamations and foster returns. Regular adoption services will not be available during these times.
