[ARCHIVED] Pitt County DSS to Host “Medicaid Plan Preview Day” Event

News_DSS

This coming Friday, the Pitt County Department of Social Services (DSS) will host a Medicaid Plan Preview Day event, to connect current Medicaid clients with best plan for them, in anticipation of the statewide transition to Medicaid Managed Care in 2020. The event will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019, from 10:00am-3:00pm in the Mark W. Owens, Jr. Auditorium, located in the Pit County Ag Center at 403 Government Circle, in Greenville.

Event attendees will have the opportunity to learn about plan enrollment procedures, plan providers, available doctors, and unique plan benefits. Major pre-paid health plans showcased will include: WellCare, United Healthcare, AmeriHealth Caritas North Carolina, and Healthy Blue.

In support of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ goal to improve the health and well-being of all North Carolinians, the Medicaid and NC Health Choice programs will transition to Medicaid Managed Care in 2020. This transition represents the most significant change to the NC Medicaid program in over 40 years.

In Pitt County, there are approximately 40,000 current Medicaid recipients. Of those current recipients, approximately 60% will be enrolled in a new plan with the transition to Managed Care. Those primarily affected by this transition will include families, children, pregnant women, and participants in NC Health Choice. However, secondary impacts could potentially be felt across the entire healthcare community within Pitt County. This is why Pitt County DSS is urging all Medicaid recipients to attend the Plan Preview Day event.

Information regarding Pitt County Department of Social Services, and their efforts ahead of the Medicaid transition can found on the Pitt County website, at www.PittCountyNC.gov/DSS.
