On Tuesday, January 7, 2020, during the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (NCASWCD) annual meeting, Pitt Soil and Water Conservation District employee, Carolyn Garris, was honored with the prestigious Master IV Certification Award.
The award is presented as part of the Association's Professional District Employees Program (PDEP) which began in 1991, and has since honored 157 District Employees. Currently, throughout the entire state of North Carolina, only five district employees hold the Master IV Certification.
Carolyn Garris has been a District Employee in Pitt County since 1992. She earned her Standard Certification in 1995, Associate Standard in 1997, Professional in 2000, Master I in 2002, Master II in 2008, and Master III in 2012. Carolyn has earned the bulk of her achievements through activities that she coordinated, participated in, or assisted with at the District, Area, State, and National levels. Carolyn provides a wealth of knowledge, and is the first person to receive the Master IV from Pitt Soil & Water Conservation District
The NC Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts hosts its Annual Meeting in early January each year. This multi-day event serves as the forum for development of association policy and action. The agenda also offers important training opportunities for district supervisors, district staff, and all members of the conservation partnership. The Pitt Soil and Water Conservation work to develop and carry out a comprehensive natural resource conservation program in Pitt County. The District works closely with the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and other cooperating agencies to assist and educate all landowners in proper use of the land.
