The Pitt County Board of Commissioners will hold a virtual quasi-judicial hearing on Monday, August 17, 2020 at or after 6:00 PM regarding a request for a Conditional Use Permit. This hearing will be held in the Eugene James Auditorium on the second floor of the County Administration Building located at 1717 W. 5th Street, Greenville, N.C.
The Pitt County Planning Department is in receipt of a petition from American Materials Company, LLC requesting a Conditional Use Permit for the expansion of an existing sand mine as required in the Rural Agricultural district. The subject property is identified by the Tax Assessor’s Office as Parcel 19208 owned by William D. Mitchum, Jr., located on the western side of SR 1403 (Stokes Road) south of its intersection with SR 1401 (Old River Road). The subject property is approximately 50.0 acres, of which 15.25 acres is proposed for excavation. This is an evidentiary hearing and will be conducted using quasi-judicial procedures. The purpose of the hearing is to gather facts and evidence about the Conditional Use Permit request prior to consideration by the Board of Commissioners. In-person attendance at the hearing will be limited and virtual participation will also be allowed.
