Pitt County Officials Rescind Burning Ban
County burning ban rescinded effective 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021
(Pitt County, NC) — On November 30th, Pitt County Emergency Management issued a county wide burning ban due to recent weather patterns. The burning ban prohibited the creation of any outdoor open burning for activities such as bonfires, yard vegetation, and land clearing.
Effective Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 12:00 p.m., Emergency Management and Forest Service officials rescinded the burning ban for Pitt County. Based on recent weather conditions, the threat of increased outdoor related fire has been reduced.
The ban on open burning could be reinstated if the potential for wildfire activity increases because the state continues to receive below normal rainfall coupled with low humidity. Officials will continue to monitor the potential fire threat.
