Janis Gallagher Appointed to County Manager

(Pitt County, NC) – Pitt County Board of Commissioners appointed Janis Gallagher to the position of permanent County Manager effective January 1, 2022.  Gallagher is the first female named County Manager for Pitt County Government and succeeds D. Scott Elliott who is retiring with 20 years of service.

 Gallagher, recently named Interim County Manager, previously served as County Attorney since 2008 following her appointment to Assistant County Attorney in 1998.  As interim and now permanent County Manager, she is now charged with handling the day-to-day operations of County Government working closely with the Pitt County Board of Commissioners.  Additionally, Gallagher assumes the responsibility for managing and coordinating the implementation of the Board policies and directives. The County Manager serves as Budget Officer and oversees the budget which supports over 21 departments and agencies. 

“The Board of Commissioners is pleased to have selected Janis Gallagher as permanent County Manager for Pitt County.  Her credentials, experience, and character will be a great asset to Pitt County for years to come,” says Pitt County Board of Commissioners Chairman, Mike Fitzpatrick.

When asked about her new role, Gallagher states, “I am grateful for the confidence the Board has placed in me.  I am honored to follow Scott Elliott as Manager and continue the great work that he has done in Pitt County.”

Gallagher is a graduate of Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA, with a Bachelor of Arts in Policy and Management Studies then a Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law, Winston-Salem, NC.
