[ARCHIVED] Pitt County Recognizes National Social Work Month 2022

March is National Professional Social Work Month and an opportunity to spotlight the profession and highlight the important contributions made to society. 

 

Currently, the Pitt County Department of Social Services (DSS) employs 93 social workers, 22 supervisors, a significant percentage of the social workers employed in organizations throughout the County including Pitt County Public Health, Pitt County Schools, Veterans Administration, Vidant Health, and private agencies.

 

“I’d like to take a moment to recognize the ongoing work and dedication of our DSS staff who tirelessly serve the residents of our community and uphold the County’s Mission to enhance the health, safety, and well-being of our community by advocating for and providing quality services in a friendly and cost-effective manner,” says Janis Gallagher, County Manager. 

 

To honor the hard work of Pitt County social workers, we acknowledge a few of their accomplishments from the last 12 months:

 

• Adoption of 14 children

• Child protection interventions involving 1,104 families 

• Guardianship service for 200 adults 

• Protection intervention to more than 350 vulnerable disabled adults

• Over 1300 child care subsidy cases

• Utility assistance to 3600 households

• Transition of 24 individuals towards sustained employment through Employment and Training program

 

“Pitt County has 47 open positions in DSS,” says Florida Hardy, Assistant County Manager and Human Resources Director.  Hardy continues, “Social workers interested in joining our team may learn more at the Pitt County Job Fair scheduled for April 21, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mark W. Owens, Jr Auditorium - Pitt County Agricultural Center located at 403 Government Circle, Greenville.”
