Pitt County is served by 20 volunteer fire departments with more than 800 trained firefighters. Members of the Pitt County Firefighters’ Association volunteer their time to protect homes, businesses, and neighborhoods across the community. These firefighters play a critical role in local fire protection and are supported through partnerships with residents and local agencies.
The Fire Marshal’s Office supports volunteer departments by assisting with training and certification, providing guidance on fire codes and best practices, coordinating mutual aid during larger incidents, and helping departments access equipment, resources, and grant opportunities.
Volunteering
The Pitt County Firefighters’ Association is accepting applications for Volunteer Firefighters across the community. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, pass a background and drug screening, and hold a valid driver’s license.
No prior experience is required. All training and firefighting gear are provided at no cost, and many volunteers complete initial training in less than a year.
Junior Firefighter Opportunities
The Firefighters’ Association is also accepting applications for Junior Firefighters. This program allows young people to learn about fire service, teamwork, and leadership while supporting their local departments.
