When to List:
January 1– January 31, 2026 Excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays
Office Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
* Listing forms will be accepted through February 2, 2026 without penalty (NCGS102-395.1)
What to List:
Personal property owned as of January 1st.
All taxpayers are required to list the following personal property each year:
- Mobile Homes
- Jet skis (All Watercraft)
- Boats and Motors
- Aircraft (All Types)
- Farm Equipment
- Business Assets
- Unlicensed Vehicles (Cars, Trucks, Trailers & Motorcycles that are not currently licensed)
- Permanent Tag Vehicles: Should be listed as personal property January 1– 31, 2026
Licensed vehicles:
DO NOT list vehicles that are licensed. You will pay NCDMV your local property tax and tag fee together at the time of renewal.
Real property:
Real property is permanently listed. Only notify the Tax Assessor of any changes to real property. Any change in ownership to personal property MUST BE reported with documented proof to Tax Administration, NCDMV and/or NC Wildlife.
