Community Input Sought on Opioid Settlement Funding

The City of Greenville and Pitt County are holding open meetings to gather feedback on how funds from the National Opioid Settlement should be used. Residents are encouraged to share ideas and priorities for programs that support prevention, treatment, and recovery.

Settlement Impact in Pitt County

As a result of the settlement, Pitt County has received about $3.9 million to date, with $1.4 million already awarded to local initiatives. Over the course of the agreement, Greenville is expected to receive nearly $2 million, while Pitt County will receive more than $15 million through 2038.

Recent Meeting

The first community meeting was held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at H. Boyd Lee Park. Additional meetings will continue to provide opportunities for residents to participate in shaping how these funds are directed.

Why Public Input Matters

Pitt County Opioid Settlement Coordinator Caitlyn Hewson emphasized the importance of community involvement, noting that due to the county’s diversity, public input on how the money is spent is invaluable.
