Opioid Crisis Settlement Brings Relief Funding to North Carolina

Sackler Family Will Pay Up To $6.5 Billion Over 15 Years; Purdue Will Pay Nearly $900 Million On Court Approval

On January 23, 2025, Attorney General Jeff Jackson announced a landmark $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family for their role in the opioid crisis. The 15-year agreement will remove the Sacklers from control of Purdue, prohibit them from opioid sales, and provide major funding for treatment and recovery programs across the nation. North Carolina is expected to receive up to $150 million, strengthening local and statewide efforts to address addiction and support recovery.
