911 Audio Recording And Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) Record Requests

Residents may request copies of 911 audio recordings or Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) records related to an incident in Pitt County. Please allow at least 7 business days for staff to review and process your request. You will be contacted when the request is complete or if additional information is needed. 

To request a 911 records, complete the official request form and provide all required information related to the incident. A separate request must be submitted for each address or incident. Incomplete requests may delay processing.

Release and Retention of 911 records

Governed by North Carolina General Statutes, including G.S. 132-1.4 and G.S. 143-318.11, some records may be withheld or partially redacted to comply with state law and to reduce risk to individuals involved. If your request requires a court order, you will be notified.

  • 911 audio recordings are not public records in their original form.
  • Certain information may be released only by court order.
  • Without a court order, recordings are subject to redaction.
  • Caller names, phone numbers, addresses, and other identifying details may be removed.
  • Voices may be altered to protect identity.
  • Retention periods for 911 recordings are set by state records retention schedules
