Required Developmental Screening Information

The North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education requires child care providers in the Subsidized Child Care Assistance Program to share basic developmental screening information with families. Screening helps children receive support during important early years and does not require specialized training.

Providers must complete and return the Developmental Screening Provider Agreement.

When discussing developmental concerns, begin by highlighting the child’s strengths. Describe specific behaviors you have observed and ask families if they have noticed similar things at home. Provide milestone information to help guide the conversation.

Encourage families to review materials and schedule a follow-up conversation. If concerns continue, recommend that they speak with their child’s doctor about developmental screening. Early action can reduce risks and support healthy development.
